Description:
Black and deep maroon colour handwoven Sambalpuri cotton saree from the weavers of Sambalpur, Odisha. The pattern for this saree evolves through a process of dyeing the warp and weft threads prior to inter-weaving. This technique of ikat weaving on a traditional handloom is a beautiful art of "poetry on the loom". This saree is woven with traditional dancing peacocks designed inside the geometric squares on the body. Dobby rudraksha designs are woven on the border of the saree. The elaborate floral design on the pallu with peacock motifs add to the beauty of this handloom saree. The saree gives little crispy feel to hand as starch is applied to yarns during weaving.
